Remodeling and Additions Comments
Linda and I are pleased to recommend Kip Carpenter and his staff at Carpenters Construction Company for any home renovation project or new home construction.  Linda and I are both detail oriented (picky) attorneys who appreciate having a building contractor whose standards are even higher than ours.  We also appreciate a person whose word is his bond.  When Kip makes commitment, you can be assured that your work will be completed on time, for the price you agreed on.

Carpenters Construction made a complete renovation of two of our bathrooms.  Renovation work requires extra care not required in new construction, after all, we were living in the project.  All our possessions were exposed to possible damage.  Kip and his crew took extraordinary care not to bump furniture, to control dust, to protect carpet and not to scare the cat!  We are delighted with the workmanship of the whole project and now that we have been using our baths for two years, we are satisfied that we have a long lasting upgrade to our home.

Remodeling the baths was followed with a new backyard deck and some necessary siding repairs, but we had no idea our next project for Carpenters Construction would be so unexpected.  In February a city utilities contractor hit our house sewer line with an earth boring tool and forced sewage water back up into the whole ground floor of our house.  I called Kip at 10:30 that morning and by noon he was on site and by that night our furniture was stored and waterlogged flooring was on the way to the dump.  Kip himself helped us box books, and other belongings to move upstairs.

Money cannot buy that kind of service and extraordinary dedication to our emergency needs.  Kip's long experience and established relations with his subcontractors was the key to providing us such quick response.   His crew put in many overtime hours to get ups back to normal living as soon as possible.  The post flood restoration is beautiful.  His staff deserves mention.  Their pride in working in a first class firm is obvious in the care with which they responded to our needs or concerns.  You will be delighted to him them working for you.

We've read some of Kip's recommendation letters and can assure you they are consistent with our experience on the two jobs he's done for us.

April 5, 2009

Dear Prospective Customer:

During the Fall of 2009 we had Carpenter's Construction do a major remodel of our downstairs (kitchen, bath, study, etc.). This was our second job with Kip so we felt very comfortable with having him do the work. The project included few major tasks but we also had quite a few miscellaneous issues that needed attention.

Kip planned, organized, and managed the project so that it came in on time and on budget. This was important to us since it was started mid-November and was to be completed just before Christmas. In fact, we would have waited until after the holidays had it been another contractor, but we trusted Kip and his staff to get the job done as promised. We weren't disappointed.

We've read some of Kip's recommendation letters and can assure you they are consistent with our experience on the two jobs he's done for us. Rather than repeat the same things over again here, we're listing a few areas where Kip really excelled in ways that were important to us.

  • Kip tried his absolute best to do what we wanted done, even when we weren't sure or changed our minds.

  • We communicated as needed and no more than necessary. He always kept us informed and there were never any surprises. He would warn us in advance of potential problem areas so that we were prepared to act if necessary.

  • Understanding the project and communicating its progress allowed Kip to deal with unforeseen circumstances and minimize their impact on the project. As the project progressed sometimes things happened that required a change in plans, such as rain on a designated painting day. Knowing what we wanted, communicating to us in advance, and being flexible allowed Kip to effectively handle unforeseen problems.

The bottom line is on both projects Carpenter's Construction came in on time and on budget, and the work was done in a professional manner - we experienced none of the horror stories you always hear about! We trust Kip, his judgment, and his management of projects.

Sincerely,

T.D. and C. D.

Everyone who was aware of our project marvels at how the old and new parts of the two areas are blended together and look they had always existed as one.

Feb. 2, 2003

We are writing this letter to unequivocally recommend Kip Carpenter and "A Carpenter Construction Company" for any remodeling and addition needs a person could have. Kip added 1300 square feet to our home for a mother-in-law suite, beginning on Aug. 1, 2002 and ending mid- Nov, 2002. This project included the removal of the first story of two load bearing exterior walls of our home for a kitchen expansion and complete remodeling of the kitchen. There was also addition of the living room, bedroom, bathroom and a two car garage where previously there had been only grass. Everyone who was aware of our project marvels at how the old and new parts of the two areas are blended together and look they had always existed as one. Kip completed all this work within his promised time frame. his crew of workmen are faithful employees who completed each aspect of the construction for which they were responsible with the same care they would have given to their own homes. In addition, they were courteous and polite and left our home and construction site in as clean a state as possible. Kip had supplies delivered just before they were to be used, avoiding a pile up of materials in our yard. Kip communicates with his subcontractors so that every piece of the building process moved along smoothly. His subcontractors worked until we and Kip were satisfied with their efforts.

Kip and his men and his office staff work tirelessly to ensure that we, as their clients, were happy and the job was done to our satisfaction. We welcome calls or visits from prospective clients who are considering "A Carpenters Construction Company" for their building/remodeling needs.

Sincerely,

M.N. and M. N.

Remarkably, we had a functional kitchen within a week's time.

April 8, 2009

Dear Kip:

It was a pleasure working with you recently on the remodeling job you completed for us.

We were very fortunate to have selected a contractor with all of your qualities and expertise. After consulting with us on our needs and providing some suggestions that we had not thought about, you presented us with a very detailed proposal which exceeded all of our expectations.

When we embarked on this remodel job, we certainly understood there would be some sacrifices to make. We planned for some disruptions to our lifestyle, since two very important parts of our house would be out of commission: kitchen and master bath. However, you efficiently planned every step of the job to ensure minimal "down time" to our kitchen and master bath. Remarkably, we had a functional kitchen within a week's time. You also took great care to minimize "dust" intrusion to the remaining parts of the house.

Your commitment to your customers was exhibited throughout the remodeling project. We felt lucky to have found a contractor like you and highly recommend you to anyone planning to remodel.

On a personal note, from our first meeting and throughout the implementations of this project, you've certainly become a friend to both of us. We certainly value your professional opinion and enjoyed getting to know you. We also look forward to doing business with you in the future.

Sincerely,

R. N. and V. S.

I found when talking with Kip that his experience with Aging in Place and his gift of listening to what I needed, convinced me he was the builder who would produce a bathroom that would fit my personal needs."

Quotes from A. D.

June 21, 2009

"I'm thrilled with my new bathroom! Thanks to Kip's attention to detail my bathroom is not only functional for my specific needs, but is beautiful beyond what I could have imagined."

"As someone who is now dealing with a disability, I realized I had to have an accessible bathroom. I was hard to know where to start, but I found when talking with Kip that his experience with Aging in Place and his gift of listening to what I needed convinced me he was the builder who would produce a bathroom that would fit my personal needs."

"I learned a lot from Kip during the project. He listened to what I knew would work for me, then made suggestions that I would never have thought of. Besides the basics of an accessible sink and safe shower, his Aging in Place training was very useful in a host of other details. Even small details make life so much easier - and safer - when you have a disability."

"I couldn't be more thrilled with my new bathroom. Kip took the time to listen, which I really appreciated. He then insured that details such as the placement of the grab bars, the adjustable shower head, the height of the vanity drawers, everything in the bathroom met my specific needs. And the fact that the bathroom is gorgeous is icing on the cake!"

"I never knew there was so much detail in remodeling an 80's bathroom into a contemporary wheelchair-accessible bathroom, so I'm grateful that I found Kip. I couldn't even get my wheelchair into the old bathroom. Kip went way beyond just basic accessibility and gave me a beautiful bathroom that fits my needs now and even 20 years from now."

The quality of work was excellent. Just as importantly, the job was completed in a timely manner and within the agreed upon price range.

April 23nd, 1997

When we had our house built in 1991 by a local contractor, I discovered just how unscrupulous and unprofessional the building business can be. Not only did we endure numerous legal and financial problems, we were left with a house that had serious design flaw. The living room was oddly shaped and the office was ridiculously small. Both rooms were nonfunctional and I was very unhappy with the house.

Wanting to see if anything could be done to improve the appearance and functionality of the house, I interviewed a number of builders. Though I was apprehensive about even trying to remodel after my previous experience, I was impressed when I talked with Kip Carpenter. His organizational skills were apparent at our first meeting. He was prompt, professional, competitively priced, and seemed very knowledgeable about the business.

I decided to hire Kip to do the remodeling job, and I am happy to say that he proved to be as good as his word. He kept me well informed of what was going to be happening and when. He stayed in touch through each phase of the remodeling process, promptly returned phone calls, and was always on the job site when he said he would be. The quality of work was excellent. Just as importantly, the job was completely in a timely manner and within the agreed upon price range. I am very pleased with the results of this remodeling project--the house not only looks better, it is also much more functional. When I get ready to do an addition that I have in mind for the future, I will be calling on Kip again. I highly recommend him to anyone who is considering building or remodeling.

Sincerely,

S. W.

The result - to our delight - is that it is almost impossible to distinguish from the exterior where the existing house ends and the addition begins.

March 1998

To Whom It May Concern

I would like to share with you are pleasant experience working with A Carpenters Construction Company, Inc., and its owner Kip Carpenter, to expand our home in an older neighborhood in Tallahassee. Though the project was not extremely large (approximately 750 square feet of new space) it did have its complications. Parts of the existing house were more than 60 years old, and the house has been remodeled and expanded at various times in its past. The previous work had been architecturally well integrated, and it was important that the addition retain this architectural integration in the future. Since we had lived in the house for eighteen years prior to the renovation, it was important to us that its essential character be retained and enhanced. This goal was achieved.

The new space had to be tied into existing living space on both the first and second floors, while disrupting our lives as little as possible. As is true with many older houses, nothing on our existing house was square or plumb, and these irregularities had to be taken into account in planning and conducting the new work so as to make the transitions from old to new compatible. There were also unusual problems, such as wooden siding on the existing house that is no longer made, and new siding had to be specially milled to match. Kip also (completely on his own initiative) saved and cleaned brick from the demolition of an existing carport to be used for facing the new foundation perimeter wall - and again perfectly matching the existing. The result - to our delight - is that it is almost impossible to distinguish from the exterior where the existing house ends and the addition begins.

We lived in the house during the project, and we were never uncomfortable with the people who worked on it. They were unfailingly thoughtful and courteous. Throughout the project Kip was extremely accessible, keeping us informed of their schedule, and making himself available to answer question or address differences in interpretation promptly. When the inevitable problems did arise we felt they were resolved quickly and equitably. Likewise, change order were incorporated fairly and within the schedule.

We got quality work within the time frame originally proposed. In short, we believe we got an excellent value from Carpenters Construction. We can recommend them in good confidence.

Sincerely,

P.M. & D.C.

We are proud of your work and have recommended you to our friends.

Oct. 17, 1988

Dear Kip and Paul:

We would like to thank you for the fine work on our addition.

We presented you with just a sketch and your design and suggestions make an addition that will serve us well in future years.

The way you designed the roof to blend in with the rest of the house was especially nice. We appreciate that so much.

The fact that we could give you a key and leave town without worry allowed us to maintain our schedules.

It was very considerate the way you kept the construction debris cleaned up and we appreciate the way you took care of all the little details that really make a difference.

We are proud of your work and have recommended you to our friends.

Sincerely,

L.M & E. M.
